1947’den GÜNÜMÜZE TÜRK-AMERİKAN İLİŞKİLERİNİN GENEL PORTRESİ  BÖLÜM 8

   ABD, özellikle Orta Doğu açısından Türkiye’ye önemli roller biçmekte, Orta Doğu politikasında Türkiye’ye önemli bir yer vermektedir. 

Türk yöneticiler de bunu bildikleri için özellikle zor zamanlarında ABD’ye bölge olaylarında büyük destek verirken, bölgedeki konumlarının kötüleşmemesi için de ihtiyatlı davranmaya, bir denge durumu bulmaya çalışmaktadırlar. Savunma alanındaki ortak projeler, Türk liderler açısından iki devletin çıkarlarının eşit şekilde korunmasını, ilişkileri daha samimi ve âdil temele oturtmasını, veren-alan ilişkisinden uzaklaşılmasını temsil etmesi açısından özellikle önemlidir. Türk liderlerin beklediği Amerikalıların ilişkilerde tek yönlü ve tek yanlı bir durumun 
ortaya çıkmamasına özen göstermeleri ve Türkiye’yi yakından ilgilendiren konularda kendilerinin görüşünü almadan tek taraflı uygulamalara gitmemeleri dir. Kısacası onlar yeni dünya şartlarında çok daha dengeli, eşit, çok yönlü ve mâkul bir ittifaktan yanadırlar.
